This is the result of my finals project a the Digital Content Designer program at Medieinstitutet. During the 8 weeks the course lasted I worked with UX Design, wireframes, prototypes, graphic design, and motion design to create a new website for Antennen, along with a new visual identity for use in social media.

Background

Antennen (formerly known as Malmö Antennen) is a collective of DJs and producers residing in Sweden. I joined Antennen sometime in 2019, and every wednesday at 21:00, we have been broadcasting live radio over mixlr.com (and sometimes live streams on Facebook/Instagram), usually with an invited guest DJ or producer.

During the Covid-19 pandemic this way of broadcasting came to a halt because of restrictions, and because of this the weekly broadcasts stopped.

My hypothesis for this project was that if I initiated a redesign of the Antennen visual identity and brand, along with a prototype for a new website, I could revitalize the collective into starting up again.

Research

Competitor Research

I started the project with researching other online based radio station, most of them local to Sweden but also a big player.

Personas

I created 3 personas based off of insights I gained through Meta Bussiness Suite while analyzing Antennen's fans and followers on Facebook and Instagram.

Flowchart

Before creating the Lo-Fi wireframes, I created several flowcharts on wanted user flows. Since the scope of the site is quite limited, the flowcharts did not end up being too compliacted.

Moodboard

I gathered inspiration from several sources, 2000's music magazines, album covers, stamps, posters, websites and photographs of our studios space to help me settle in on a creative vision.


Design Production

Graphic Profile

I started with creating a graphic profile for the redesign. I created a new logotype based around the existing symbol that Antennen is using already, a stylized platter and tonearm.

For the typography, I decided to use IBM Plex Sans in Regular weight only, with IBM Plex Mono as a seconadry typeface. I chose this typeface because the grotesk style, but also readability.

I created a color palette based around black and white, with a vibrant iris color as the main brand color.

Social Media Assets

I created assets for Instagram, mainly frames to be used on image posts along with a TouchDesigner project that can be used with any song, and will react differently based on the frequency conent in three frequency bands.
